Welfare Breaks

Our Welfare Break Scheme is offered to individuals aged 60 and above in need of respite following hospitalisation, bereavement, or other life affecting events. For a period of up to seven days, applicants can enjoy half-board accommodation in small hotels or guesthouses throughout the country.

Whilst we acknowledge that some applicants may wish to be accompanied by a relative or companion, we are unable to absorb complete responsibility for the additional costs incurred. Please contact our Welfare Advisor about additional assistance for carers.

To apply for a Welfare Break, applicants must first meet the following criteria:

  • Be Serving/ex-Service personnel or the spouse/partner of an ex-Serviceman or woman (this includes widows, widowers, divorced spouses who have not re-married and not in another cohabitating relationship)*
  • On low income and have savings of no more than £10,000
  • Recently suffered bereavement or ill health
